Here's the situation:
First off; Owen will not sleep un-swaddled. When we try, he cries and cries and cries. I've let him fuss for awhile, in fact, he fussed a bit for AN HOUR today. ugh...then finally drifted off, only for 20 mins... but when he goes to SCREAMS, i'm not a believer in "crying-it-out." Sometimes he will fuss himself to sleep, but only sleep about a half hour un-swaddled, and then wake up. BUT if he's swaddled he'll take good naps. He's seriously out-growing his blankies..haha. Will he grow out of this? Do we need to keep trying to break him of it?
Secondly, at night time, he will only sleep about 4 hours then wake up to be fed, then sleep maybe two more. Once again, we don't get him when he is only stirring, we get him when he is crying and it is APPARENT that he needs something. Sometimes when feeding he'll take FOREVER and that'll clue me in that he's not really hungry, just trying to pacify himself, so i'll just give him the paci, rock him for a bit and put him back down. I've read that they are supposed to be sleeping 8-10 hours now. He certainly is not. This is DEF. effecting Mark and I's days!
Thirdly, In the mornings, he's going down for his nap and sleeping for like 3 hours!! This is about 1.5 hours after he wakes up in the morning. This clues me in that he obviously isn't sleepiing well at night and is finisihing his night time sleep in the morning.
He take 2-3 regular naps during the day, probably totaling 4 hours, then sleeps minimal at night. So he isn't sleeping tons in the day which would take away from night time hours. So i don't understand. I feel like i've tried everything.
HELP! ADVICE PLEASE!

hey mama.
well.... what kind of feeding schedule are you on?
for us, logan didn't sleep 10hrs or more until he was 5 months old! it's ok. promise.
it's ok that he takes a three hour nap, too. that should be the longest you let him sleep, but three hours isn't too long. right now logan gets up at 7, eats, goes down for a nap at 8-10, eats, nap at 11-1, eats, down again at 2-4, eats, down at 5 until whenever, eats at 7, down for the night at 8 and we start all over the next day. for a long time he held on to his early morning feed, we just let him grow out of it naturally. as far as naps, owen may not be sleeping well at night because he's not sleeping much during the day. i know it sounds crazy counterintuitive, but it's totally true. when logan sleeps poorly during the day -- our nights are ROUGH!
you should also consider growth spurts. they are not always exactly when the books say they will be. i think they're expected at 6wks, 4mo. and six months. logan usually hit his a week or so before and they last a few weeks. we're just finishing one up. it's been about a month, but i know it's on its way out.
do you feed own cereal or anything?
this is the longest post ever... if you want you can call or email me! i'd love to help if i can :)
